Javi Hernandez (Al Calderon) has told Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) repeatedly that he has a new boyfriend. While Leo has tried his best to let Javi know that he’s the only man for him, Javi is barely giving him the time of day.
Javi Claims He Has a New Firefighter Boyfriend Back in Texas
The last interaction that Javi and Leo had was after Javi saved Johnny DiMera’s (Carson Boatman) life after Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) used a gas-based explosion and accelerant in an attempt to blow Johnny up.
Javi inhaled a significant amount of methane and hadn’t worn the proper gear. Javi collapsed at the hospital, and when Leo learned about the incident, he went to visit Javi in his room.

Leo reached out to Javi, but Javi was reluctant to even speak to him. Javi reminded Leo that he had a new man and that they were truly over.
So, the question here is: Does Javi’s new boyfriend really exist? Looking at the whole picture, we have serious doubts that Javi is dating someone else.
The out-of-town significant other story is the oldest trick in the book. Javi claims that this dude was someone he worked with at the firehouse in Texas.

Plus, Javi left town to be with his ailing father, who had recently had a heart attack and needed an operation. When exactly did Javi have the time to embark on a steady, committed relationship?
Javi had also called Leo at one point, in what seemed like a bid to try to repair the relationship. The only reason that Javi changed his mind was that he heard Dimitri in the background.
Is Javi Trying to Protect Himself from Leo?
Javi had also made a comment to Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) recently that he wasn’t ready to move on from Leo, which makes the new boyfriend claim sound bogus.
Not to mention, we can’t really believe that Javi has a new boyfriend who lives in Texas, when he’s now moved back to Salem. It doesn’t make much sense.

Also, Javi doesn’t seem like the kind of man who would want a long-distance relationship. The whole thing seems fishy and rooted in fiction.
It’s much more plausible that Javi is trying to protect himself from being hurt by Leo again, despite Leo never wavering from his commitment to his relationship with Javi.
Leo and Javi’s New Year’s Eve wedding ended when Dimitri Von Leuschner (Peter Porte) showed up. From the moment Dimitri arrived, Javi was convinced that Leo would choose Dimitri over him.
Dimitri Left Town and Javi Still Refuses to Budge
Leo never stood a chance against Javi’s insecurities. Javi was the one who decided not to have Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), who officiated the ceremony, file the marriage certificate.
Now, Dimitri has left town, and Javi still refuses to have contact with Leo, even to the point of rejecting Leo’s invitation to have a friendship. He claims he wants a clean break.

Leo has done the work on himself and has experienced significant character growth as a result. His transformation has been gradual and genuine.
Leo would have never dumped Javi for Dimitri. However, Javi jumped to conclusions when Dimitri suddenly appeared after the wedding ceremony.
It seems like Javi will come up with any reason he can to avoid his true feelings for Leo. He’s desperately trying to shut the door on any potential reconciliation with Leo. It’s actually somewhat cowardly.

As much as we loved Leo and Javi together, we have to wonder whether Leo would be better off flying solo, continuing his therapy with Marlena, and working on himself until he finds someone worthy of him.
Plus, Jacob Martinez is officially assuming the role of Javi Hernandez on June 30th. We have no idea which direction the DOOL writers plan to take the character from that point on.
