The #FreeBritney movement has apparently gained a new supporter. In the wake of Britney Spears’ recent statement at her probate hearing, celebs have come out in support of the singer.
Even ex Justin Timberlake sounded off, although his support wasn’t exactly well-received by the public. This time, a soap star has sounded off about the situation. Here’s what you need to know.
Jon Lindstrom says #FreeBritney
‘General Hospital’ star Jon Lindstrom has been busy in Port Charles. He plays respected psychiatrist Kevin Collins and his evil twin brother, Ryan Chamberlain. Ryan’s murderous ways had Collins hidden away for a while as Ryan took over his life.
These days, Ryan’s mostly out of the picture, but Lindstrom is still busy. After all, it seems Ryan never totally goes away and he has been shown a couple of times. Meanwhile, Kevin’s been busy dealing with his wife Laura Webber’s (Genie Francis) own evil relative. In real-life, Lindstrom got busy on Twitter the other day to make his feelings known.

An apt comparison in the #FreeBritney situation
In his post, Lindstrom wrote, “The #BritneySpears “conservatorship” is like Judy Garland’s indentured servitude times 10. Enough already. The woman should have her life back. #SelfDetermination is a right. #FreeAgency”
We can’t help but agree. The late Wizard of Oz star also started performing at a young age, only she was much younger than Spears. Her story is Hollywood Legend as well as a Hollywood Tragedy.
While she triumphed in a lot of ways professionally, her personal life fell apart. Garland was famously given medication as a child and teen to help her sleep and stay up as the situation dictated.
In her recent hearing, Spears herself claimed to be getting medicated against her will. She begged to be freed from the arrangement, which doesn’t even allow her to choose whether or not she uses birth control.
Spears also claimed abusive behavior, as well as being treated as a slave by people she’s paying. She also alleged people lied about her level of cooperation during her cancelled Vegas gig, as well as talking about how hard she worked on the choreography for it.
Why #FreeBritney is a wake-up call
We’ve heard the story before. So many stars have come into the business young and had meltdowns much like Britney’s. Some made it, some did not. But with each passing year, more and more comes out about the perils of being part of the entertainment industry.
This case is just another example of how extreme the troubles can be. It also had people online pointing out that Britney’s IUD situation isn’t unique. There is one country in particular where a group of people is being forced into that and other methods.
It’s happened elsewhere over many years, too, and Britney’s public statement could end up being a catalyst for massive change within the industry, as well as elsewhere.
As several online pointed out, it’s a sad reality it sometimes a celeb going through something is what makes people stand up and pay attention. We hope that that’s the case.
Not just for lots of others who’ve come through or are going through a system that seems destined to damage them in adulthood, or regular people who end up in similar terrible circumstances.
But for the well-being of a human being who’s apparently been pushed to her limit and wants her life back.
