‘The Bachelor’ executive producer Mike Fleiss isn’t the most popular man these days with the once rating juggernaut he created over twenty years ago losing viewers in droves. So, when Fleiss sent out what should have been a tantalizing Tweet, a cynical Bachelor Nation did respond exactly as he probably imagined they would.

    Historic announcement coming soon! #TheBachelor

    — Mike Fleiss (@fleissmeister) February 19, 2022

The tweet was short and simple, but Bachelor Nation has learned to not quite trust Fleiss or his Tweets anymore.

The last "great announcement" was Clayton as our Bachelor.

    "Trust us, you'll love him!"

Forgive us for being gun shy about announcements, Fleiss

Instead of stirring intrigue, Bachelor fans (or ex-fans) filled the replies with tweets of dread of what’s to come.

Oh god what is it now

    — julia fiedler (@julia_fiedler5) February 19, 2022

That’s if they believed Fleiss had anything up his sleeve at all.

Some think Fleiss is just trying to drum up interest in the franchise that has been flailing with low ratings and unpopular leads/contestants for years

Several Tweeters came up with their own ideas on what would make an announcement ‘historic’ in Bachelor Nation terms.

you’re going to consider a female over the age of 35 and over the weight of 115 worthy of marriage?!? Crazy times we live in.

    — tweepla (@tweepla) February 19, 2022

    or

You are going to cast a male lead that has a hint of personality?#Bachelor #BachelorNation #Shanae

    — Jason (@jasonfein) February 19, 2022

But many more were hoping to actually see some sort of real change, like going back to the original format of the show

You are going to focus on relationships building instead of women being nasty to each other? Couldn’t finish Matt’s season and thankful I am not watching this one

    — Liisyg (@Liisyg) February 19, 2022

    or moving into the future.

Are we getting a bisexual bachelor and bachelorette?

    — Jennifer Brancaccio (@JenniferBranca2) February 19, 2022

However, casting a LGBTQ+ lead (on purpose) would only be historic for the U.S. version as Australia cast their first bi-sexual (and indigenous) lead last year, with both male and female contestants trying to capture Brooke Blurton’s heart.

Several of the replies were hoping to see the return of their favorite host

@ABCSignature & #TheBachelor will issue a public apology to @chrisbharrison and bring him back as the full time host of The Bachelor Franchise?

    — k_g_1 (@the_k_g_1) February 19, 2022

Most of the comments, however, seemed to center on the belief that the seniors version of The Bachelor was finally cast and coming to fruition.

Senior Bachelor , that they have been announcing for ages it feels like.

    — Karin M (@KRNMY9) February 19, 2022

The idea has been floated for years, with the powers that be blaming Covid for the project taking so long to get off the ground. In which case- historic? I guess. Worth all the cloak and dagger? Doubtful, seeing as they have been talking about a seniors only Bachelor season forever.

Whatever the announcement, the buzz Fleiss was hoping to generate may not be exactly what he was hoping for instead of anticipation, it seems the exec has opened himself up to sarcasm, criticism and ridicule.

Sounds like the fate of a Bachelor contestant, really!
