‘General Hospital’ (gh) spoilers suggest that the Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) we once knew and loved is nowhere to be found. Anna was once a double agent, a super spy, a mob wife, and a bad*ss.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Jason Called Anna Out On Her Double Standards
The writers have reduced this once multi-layered and fascinating character to a hypocrite. She let Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) get away with his daughter, Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlet Fernandez), and flat-out told Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) that she was aiming to take Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) down.
In the August 21st episode of GH, Jason finally called her out on her hypocrisy and double standards. Once upon a time, Sonny and Anna were good friends who confided in one another.
Last year, Anna accepted Sonny’s protection offer when she thought the big bad wolf was after her, but Charlotte was stalking her.
After Anna accidentally shot Charlotte, who had broken into Anna’s apartment, Sonny was there for her and offered her a shoulder to cry on.
Today, you would never know that friendship once existed. She told Jason he must choose between her side of the law and Sonny’s.
She threw it in Jason’s face, saying he “knows better” than taking orders from Sonny. Jason responded by calling her out. “When did you learn better? So when you were a double agent? When did your relationship with Caesar Faison (Anders Hove) end? Or when you said goodbye to Valentin?” he asked.
“You stand there and demand better from me when you have compromised again and again, and you’re compromising now,”
he was referring to her warning Valentin and allowing him to evade justice and go on the run with Charlotte.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Anna Has Become Anti-Sonny
Anna was also once married to Duke Lavery (Ian Buchannan), who was in the mob, and they were about to leave Port Charles to start a new life when he was shot and killed.
It’s a weird turn of events that Anna suddenly becomes so anti-Sonny. The best part about Anna’s character is that she is neither black nor white nor a hypocrite.
All it took for her to become Sonny’s enemy was that Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) told her that Sonny ordered him to kill Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), who is as dangerous and toxic as they come.
Not to mention, Sonny changed his mind at the last minute and stopped Dex from harming Cyrus. Apparently, this was all too much for Anna, who, after years of having a good relationship with Sonny, vowed to put him behind bars.
We hoped the “new” writers would fix this nonsense, as several characters aren’t acting like themselves.
While the writers have picked up the pace, the tales they have been weaving over the last few months involving some of the show’s formerly best characters leave something to be desired.
Anna has a double standard in that she only gives a pass to criminals with whom she sleeps. She lets Valentin flee the country, but she’s all business when it comes to Sonny.
We get that Anna is the police commissioner. However, she picks who should be prosecuted and who can escape the law.
