The latest Beverly Hills 90210 flashback brings a bit of a feud, as well as leading into the beginning of lots of trouble for Dylan McKay (Luke Perry). We’ve been occasionally checking out episodes on Pop, and it’s been fun to look back on some big series moments. Although, there are times where it leads to a little annoyance, too. Here’s the deal.

Beverly Hills 90210 flashback: The plot

The latest episode found Nat Bussichio (Joe E. Tata) having a heart attack at the Peach Pit. Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley) and Dylan jumped into action. Dylan ended up saving Nat’s life while they waited for an ambulance to get there. However, the incident led to a bit of a problem.

Nat was going to be out of commission for a bit, and the diner couldn’t afford that. So, Brandon stepped in to take over, and the rest of the gang joined in to help. However, this episode was just the beginning of a couple of bad moments in the series’ history. At least, as far as two characters are concerned.

    Beverly Hills 90210 flashback: Trouble

First, there was Dylan. Before the incident at the Peach Pit, Dylan had confronted Suzanne Steele (Kerrie Keane) about her story. She’d come in a little while before this, saying her daughter Erica (Noley Thornton) was Jack McKay’s (Josh Taylor).

Dylan was ready to embrace them, but it seems Jim Walsh (James Eckhouse) did a little digging and found money she hadn’t mentioned. If you’re a fan, you know how this story turned out. But for Dylan? Her explanation was enough. He even brought Suzanne to the Peach Pit to get a job. Nat was showing her the ropes when he had the heart attack.

Watching this again made us feel for Dylan. He really bought into the whole family thing, and they’d eventually take him for a major ride. Watching him so happy to have a family around and helping them out has more impact now in the context of future stories. But that wasn’t the only problem.

    Beverly Hills 90210 flashback: Feuding

With this episode, Brandon obviously had a close bond with Nat and the Peach Pit, like most of the rest of the characters. Except he actually worked there for a while and fancied himself the savior.

We watched a fight develop between him and Jim over trying to run the place while going to school and being on a special education task force. But Brandon never gets down when he’s on the high horse, so he pushed ahead.

This complex got so bad, he and Dylan came to blows in future episodes over the Peach Pit. Dylan ended up buying the share belonging to Nat’s brother so the diner could survive. Brandon will get jealous and bitter in the episodes following this, because Nat rightfully shows a lot of gratitude for Dylan’s investment and involvement in the business going forward.

Without that money, the Peach Pit would have gone down. But Brandon would still get bitter over it, which is one thing we found fault with in that character. It’s one thing to have a flawed character that does stupid things. But when you hold them up as a moral authority everyone loves? This is where the problems begin. We’re looking forward to seeing what episode we end up getting next.
