In another Beverly Hills 90210 flashback, we take a look at a huge moment for the show. As well as the problematic moment that came before. We’re talking about their High School graduation, of course. Let’s take a look back at some of the best moments, as well as a problem.

Beverly Hills 90210 flashback: The problem

To start, we have to look back at what led to the graduation. It’s something we totally don’t like, looking back. It was the Prom episode. In it, there was a clear rule that no drinking was to happen at the event, and anyone caught there drunk would be suspended and kept from other school events, including graduation. To us, looking back, it seems reasonable. These are underage people at a school function. This Beverly Hills 90210 flashback wanted to send a message of students organizing and coming together to fight authority. But it really feels like it just promoted giving pass on personal responsibility. On the surface, it’s not the worst thing in the world for Mel Silver (Matthew Laurance) to let the kids toast each other on a big night like that in his home.

However, here’s the problem. Donna knew the rules. She knew what the consequences would be, and no one was forcing her to consume even more. She totally went overboard and caused her own problem. So the scenes of her going on about her friends making this day possible through the “Donna Martin (Tori Spelling) Graduates” protest fell flat with us today.

Of course, Steve Sanders (Ian Ziering) proved himself to be the iffy person he is. He admitted in this episode to Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley) that he’d made this sure “generous, anonymous” donation would be traced back to them. Thereby conning Mrs. Yvonne Teasley (Denise Dowse) into going easy on him after his theft of the legacy key/plot to change his grades.

Beverly Hills 90210 flashback: The feels

There were some really touching moments in the graduation episodes as well. We loved watching Dylan McKay (Luke Perry) asking Jim Walsh (James Eckhouse) to put his money back in a trust. The scene showed how far these characters came, and how Jim got a new respect for Dylan with that decision.

Secondly the graduation came with another Beverly Hills 90210 flashback. Specifically, David Silver (Brian Austin Green) remembered his old friend, who’d died by accidently shooting himself. The flashback to David going off on Brandon on West Beverly’s radio station was moving, as well David’s memory of telling Scott Scanlon (Douglas Emerson) to cool it with this new interest of his.

Another came when Dylan had a vision of his father at the ceremony, which was later followed by Kelly Taylor’s (Jennie Garth) father showing up. Our favorite, however, was the great speech Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris) gave during the ceremony.

Beverly Hills 90210 flashback: The fun

A couple fun moments were seeing David and Donna dressed up as the Wayne’s World characters. It totally dates the episode, but as huge fans of the movie, we loved that throwback. It was also hilarious watching Andrea obsessing about her speech throughout the episode. Plus, we have to give a shoutout to the Paris flashback where Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) and Donna ordered cow brain without realizing it. Let that be a lesson to anyone in a foreign country—always translate the dish before you order/bite into it.
