The Iron Sheik, a former heavyweight champion and WWE Hall of Famer, has died at the age of 81, according to his representatives. His social media had a lengthy statement about him and how much he will be missed. They began by saying,

“Today, we gather with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a true legend, a force of nature, and an iconic figure who left an incredible mark on the world of professional wrestling.
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of The Iron Sheik, but we also take solace in knowing that he departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come,” his social media page read.

Sheik, full name Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, was one of the tallest heels to ever take foot inside the squared circle. He was born in Iran in 1942. He had previously won the championship by defeating Bob Backlund in 1983.

One of Hulk Hogan’s earliest foes was The Iron Sheik, but Hogan finally overcame Sheik to win the title, igniting Hulkamania.

Along with Nikolai Volkoff, Sheik won the WWF Tag Team championship in 1985. Sgt. Slaughter, Sheik’s longtime foe and former partner, performed Sheik’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.

“WWE is saddened to hear of the passing of WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik,” the statement from World Wrestling Entertainment said. “WWE extends its condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”

In typical Sheik flair, the last tweet he posted from his account was “F*** THE WILDFIRES” only hours before he passed away.

Rest in peace, Sheik, and thank you for all the memories! You will not be forgotten.
