Following a tragic accident at a construction site, former NFL receiver Mike Williams, the Offensive Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2010, passed away.

Williams’ family has established a GoFundMe page to raise money for his medical expenses after the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver suffered a “massive head injury” a few days ago after a steel beam collapsed on him, leaving him completely paralyzed from the waist down and in his right arm.

Williams’ family reports that his condition deteriorated in the days that followed. On Monday, Spectrum News 1’s Jon Scott announced that Williams had gone away. He was just 36 years old.

Updates about his passing was tweeted by his old teammate Gerald McCoy, who shocked the football world on Monday evening. “Dang man hurts my heart seeing the news of my former teammate and Buccaneers 2010 draft class brother Mike Williams,” McCoy said. “Always great energy, brought joy and laughter to the locker room and a heck of a player!! Prayers and blessings to his family!! 🙏🏾😔”

In the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the Buccaneers selected Williams, and he went on to have a spectacular rookie season, coming in second place to Sam Bradford for OROY accolades.

Before being dealt to the Bills in 2014, he continued to play for Tampa for three more seasons. However, he was never able to match his rookie level of productivity, and after only one season in Buffalo, he was released from the league.

In 63 total games, the former Syracuse star concluded his career with 3,089 receiving yards and 26 receiving touchdowns.

    Rest in peace, Mike Williams.
