A gunman who killed three people in a mall in Indiana fired 24 rounds from a rifle after waiting in the mall bathroom for one hour. However, after just 2 minutes of him firing into the crowd, he was shot by a 22-year-old good samaritan. The attack happened at the Greenwood Park Mall and reports say the gunman had recently been evicted from his apartment.
Killed in the attack was Pedro Pineda, 56, Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda, 37, and Victor Gomez, 30. It looks like he chose them at random, but we probably won’t know what the motive was.
22-Year-Old Elisjsha Dicken Stops Indiana Gunman With His Own Legally Owned Handgun
The shooter was then shot dead by 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken, who was shopping with his girlfriend when he pulled his weapon on the shooter. Dicken was hailed by the police and hailed as a hero for his quick thinking.
“His actions were nothing short of heroic. He engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun and was very proficient,” Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said
The shooter had no adult criminal record but was known to police for incidents when he was a minor; one involved a school fight and the other involved him running away from home. As of now, his family has not commented on the incident.
While what happened was a tragedy and we are thinking of the families of those who were killed, thank goodness for Dicken who reacted quickly and took out the shooter before he could kill more people. After the incident in Uvalde, people have been on their toes.
Had Elisjsha not been there shopping with his girlfriend, who knows how many more people may have lost their lives.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities said they would provide more details this week.
