For fans of Real Housewives of Orange County, they were less than thrilled when they heard about the comparison she made last week. She has been getting quite a lot of backlash from the comparison between 9/11 and the elementary school shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas.
Real Housewives of Orange County: The Comparison
Kelly Dodd took to social media and tweeted, “After 9-11, we didn’t ban planes. We secured the cockpits. Secure the schools.” This post took a deep dive rather quickly when her fans really started in on her.
Real Housewives of Orange County: Fans Shocked at Kelly Dodd’s Comparison of 9/11 and Texas School Shooting
One of her fans replied, “You’d rather have schools look like prisons than reforming gun laws… uhm…ok. That won’t traumatize the kids, to have constant reminders that adults have failed them.” Another added, “After 9/11 we banned people bringing dangerous items onto planes. In the same way, we can ban people from accessing and carrying dangerous items that continue to kill people in schools so frequently.”
There were even more comments to Dodd’s post. One more added, “Your lack of empathy and understanding is apparent. Did you not see the videos of the gunman in the school as police and security were too scared to go inside? There is no reason for automatic weapons. Have a simple gun and require a background check- what’s wrong with that?”
Many fans of the Real Housewives shows know that Dodd is very conservative and this is not the first time that her posts have caused a stir like this. She has made comments about the Black Lives Matter movement and false claims about COVID-19. Her comments about social issues are just part of the reason that she was fired from the show last year.
Dodd’s post comes to her fans just a few days after the elementary school shooting. Salvador Ramos, who is 18 years old, went into Robb Elementary School and shot and kills 19 children and two teachers. It happened in a fourth-grade classroom and he shot them all with a legally purchased AR-15 rifle.
He was inside the school for about an hour before the cops came in and shot and killed him. Dodd is not the only one who has spoken out about the shooting, but she is one of the few that has made such a bold and conservative statement about it.
Dodd’s fan base may be slimming down even more after this post. We will continue to keep an eye on her next posts on Twitter to see what she adds next.
