Maurice Benard’s State of Mind talks body image and more

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind has had an impressive list of soap star guests, as well as people from other worlds. This time, he spoke with a Days of Our Lives star. It wasn’t the first, and it definitely won’t be the last. He spoke with Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera) not long ago, and Lindsay Godfrey (Sarah Horton) will also appear of the show. For now, let’s see who this week’s guest was and what they had to say.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind enters Salem

The guest for Maurice Benard’s State of Mind this week was Alison Sweeney. Sweeney plays Sami Brady on the series, and had another reason for appearing on the show this week. The same night, he had a movie debuting on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. And her co-star just happened to be a future General Hospital actor, Cameron Mathison. Check this article out to see who he’ll be playing when he hits Port Charles.

As for Sweeney, if you haven’t seen her in action, Sami is sometimes called Hurricane Sami. She has a habit of popping in and out of Salem, usually bringing some drama along for the ride. For example, the last time she returned to the show, she was determined to stop her daughter from giving up a child.

Ultimately, to get what she wanted, she helped get a woman with serious mental issues out of an institution. A woman who just happens to target Sami’s sister, Belle Black (Martha Madison).

Currently, Sami is trying to hide an affair she had with ex-husband Lucas Horton (Brian Dattilo). Unfortunately for her, she has no idea that a letter proving her infidelity has already reached her husband, EJ DiMera (Daniel Feuerriegel).

Back to the interview. Before they began, Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, listed off an impressive list of accomplishments. Sweeney is an author, along with acting, behind the scenes work, and more. So what’d they discuss?

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind gets real

Of course, this show always gets real. It’s about delving into the mind and getting personal about mental health. While Sweeney said she doesn’t suffer from any mental health challenges, she did discuss a background of addiction in her family line, as well as the body image issues that come from being an actress.

In particular, she related a story about trying to get a role on a popular nighttime drama. The actress said the feedback to her agent was she should come back when she loses some weight. While she didn’t name the series, we have our suspicions. A certain popular nighttime show was once in a legal battle with another actress, so we think the odds are high it’s the same show.

Of course, only Sweeney and the agent/people involved in the decision know for sure. The story was a great share, as it’s gotten people talking on social media about their own body image issues. Not to mention how being active physically can make one feel better, both body and mind.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Vulnerable moment

Finally, we got a kick out of Benard in this one. While we think the camera work was a bit odd this time, he did a great job as always in the interviewer seat. See, he shared that he was nervous about the interview. It seems he was intimidated by Sweeney and her strong presence.

We love that he was willing to share that, and that he showed how he was able to power through that and come out looking completely comfortable. Well, except we could tell he was a bit impressed as he read off her list of accomplishments. We’re looking forward to seeing what’s next on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind.
