Founding member of Depeche Mode, Andy Fletcher, has died at the age of 60. The group announced the passing on Thursday saying, “We are shocked and filled with overwhelming sadness with the untimely passing of our dear friend, family member, and bandmate Andy “Fletch” Fletcher.”
Fletcher, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, and Dave Gahan launched Depeche Mode in 1980, however, Clarke left the group shortly after the debut of their first album. After his career in Depeche Mode, Fletcher worked as a DJ and toured around Europe in 2015.

The group‘s statement continued to say, “Fletch had a true heart of gold and was always there when you needed support, a lively conversation, a good laugh, or a cold pint. Our hearts are with his family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts.”
Depeche Mode and Fletcher were just inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
The band and Fletcher himself would often joke about his role inside the band and in a 1989 documentary, Fletcher said, “Dave is the singer, Martin is the songwriter, Alan is the great musician and I just bum around.”
It’s incredible that Fletcher remained with the band for more than 40 years, and unfortunate that he passed too soon. Our hearts are with their families in these difficult times and we’ll be thinking about them.
Rest in peace Andy. He was only 60 years old.
