“The Talk” made an historic announcement on Wednesday when they welcomed actor, Jerry O’Connell to the permanent seat that had been vacated by Sharon Osbourne earlier this year.

O’Connell has been guest hosting for the past few months, and said of becoming the first male co-host, “It’s real exciting.”

“First of all, I want to say, you ladies have been so welcoming to me,” he said to his new fulltime co-hosts. “I mean, I came here as a guest months ago, and just from the moment I walked in, you’re just gracious, you’re kind, you’re fun, and it worked. And here we are. We’re going to have a lot of fun, we really are.”

O’Connell’s addition to the cast fills the seat Osbourne was fired from in March, following a heated argument regarding Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle with fellow co-host Sheryl Underwood.

There is still one more open seat as Carrie Ann Inaba left the show shortly after the drama all went down, citing a flare up of her auto immune disease due to stress. However, Inaba recently announced that she will be returning as a judge for the 30th season of Dancing With the Stars.

After this announcement was made, fans instantly wanted to know if she was well enough to return to The Talk also.

Inaba then tweeted out, “I noticed a lot of you are asking about The Talk, if I’m coming back and what’s happening there. I should have some news soon about what’s going on with my future and The Talk.”

She went on to congratulate O’Connell on his new position with the chat show.

O’Connell is now settling into his new role and said his family is “very excited” about his new gig.

“It’s something new, you know, I don’t want to say it’s scary, but it’s new so it’s a change,” he said. “And change is good. You have to do things that scare you, that shake it up a bit, and this is definitely shaking it up.”

The Talk airs weekdays on CBS
