Meghan Markle is once again drawing attention for her comments about online abuse — but this time, the reaction has been noticeably more critical, with growing pushback over her repeated focus on herself when discussing broader issues like cyberbullying and mental health.
During a public engagement in Australia centred on mental health awareness, the Duchess of Sussex spoke at length about the harassment she says she has faced since entering public life, describing what she called a decade of sustained online abuse.
“I Have Been Bullied and Attacked for 10 Years”
Addressing students at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Meghan delivered one of her most direct statements yet on the subject.
“For now, 10 years, every day for 10 years, I have been bullied and attacked. And I was the most trolled person in the entire world,” she said.
The comment was made as part of a wider discussion on cyberbullying and mental health, with Meghan urging young people not to internalise negativity online and to be aware of the impact of digital culture.
However, it was her framing of the issue through her own experience — particularly the claim that she was “the most trolled person in the entire world” — that once again became the central talking point.
A Message That Keeps Circling Back to Herself
While Meghan continues to position her public appearances around mental health and online safety, critics argue that the way she delivers that message repeatedly shifts focus back to herself.
Detractors say this pattern has become familiar over time, with broader conversations about social media harm often becoming anchored in her own story rather than remaining centred on the wider issue.
Many claim the repeated emphasis on her being a ‘victim’ makes advocacy seem more about herself and overshadows the broader message she is supposedly attempting to promote.
Critics Question the “Most Trolled” Framing
Her assertion that she was “the most trolled person in the entire world” has also drawn scepticism online, with some questioning how such a claim could be measured or verified in any meaningful way. It seems to some that she is clearly obsessed with being the ‘ultimate victim’.
