Singer Aimée Anne Duffy Calling For Netflix To Remove Controversial Film 365 Days

Singer Duffy wants Netflix to pull the plug on the hit but also controversial Polish movie, 365 Days. She says that the film “glamorizes the brutal reality of sex trafficking, kidnapping rape.”

In 365 Dni, Michele plays Massimo, a member of the Sicilian Mafia family. His love conquest, Laura, is played by Polish actress Anna Maria Sieklucka. The film follows Laura, a young woman in a spiritless relationship falling for a dominant man with a dangerous lifestyle who imprisons her and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. The film has drawn parallels with Fifty Shades of Grey, but has also been criticized for kidnapping.

But according to the 36-year-old Welsh singer, she says that Netflix’s decision to stream the film is an “irresponsible” one. Duffy has been very outspoken about her own personal experiences of allegedly being drugged, raped and held captive in the past. In her letter, Duffy writes, “‘365 Days’ glamorizes the brutal reality of sex trafficking, kidnapping and rape. This should not be anyone’s idea of entertainment, nor should it be described as such, or be commercialized in this manner.”

She added, “I write these words (ones I cannot believe I am writing in 2020, with so much hope and progress gained in recent years), as an estimated 25 million people are currently trafficked around the world, not to mention the untold amounts of people uncounted.  Please take a moment to stop and pause, and think about that number, equivalent to almost half the population of England. And of those trafficked annually, no less than 80% are women and girls, and 50% of them are minors. It grieves me that Netflix provides a platform for such ‘cinema’, that eroticizes kidnapping and distorts sexual violence and trafficking as a “sexy” movie. I just can’t imagine how Netflix could overlook how careless, insensitive, and dangerous this is. It has even prompted some young women, recently, to jovially ask Michele Morrone, the lead actor in the film, to kidnap them.”

Many fans seem to agree as they too have posted comments such as, “Beautifully crafted letter. This film should never have been made. Someone’s asleep at the wheel,” along with, “Seriously, this movie sounds terrible and Netflix (as well as all involved in the film’s creation) should hang their heads in shame. Especially in light of the Jeffrey Epstein situation.”
