Netflix has timed the release of some great shows and movies during the pandemic, so of course, we’re all going to watch, right? Lovers of erotica beware! There is a brand new movie that Netflix released that you may go nuts over! 365 DNI is the newest and sexiest movie on the streaming service right now. Viewers were excited to see a very attractive Italian man take a beautiful woman hostage and make her fall in love with him. There are some issues with the story though. Many watchers feel that it is making Stockholm Syndrome look glorified. After taking a much closer look at the film, we decided that it does glorify Stockholm Syndrome, but we just couldn’t stop watching it! Why? Oh we’ll tell you.
Netflix Presents: What is Stockholm Syndrome?
For those who are unaware of what Stockholm Syndrome is…hold tight, it’s crazy, but we will break it down for you as easily as we can. Stockholm Syndrome occurs when a victim is kidnapped or kept sheltered by a loved one. The victim is abused mentally, physically, emotionally, and sexually. As the victim is being abused, the victim will fall madly in love with their abusers. This clearly doesn’t happen every time someone is kidnapped, but it has happened many times in history.
Netflix Presents: 365 DNI – Why is the World Watching this Sexy Film?
One of the most famous cases of Stockholm Syndrome is the Patty Hearst case. In 1974, Patty Hearst was kidnapped basically because she was the granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst. Her kidnappers broke into her apartment, beat up her fiance, and threw her in the trunk of their car. After about a month of being held captive, Patty was ready to join her captors and they started talking about a revolution. She then decided that she would help them with a bank robbery. She had fully committed to being part of this group. She did serve time in prison and when she was there, she said that they had brainwashed her.
So where is the Stockholm Syndrome in 365DNI? The main character of the movie, Massimo, kidnaps Laura, who was on vacation in Italy. Massimo is a gangster, but has this dream of Laura five years prior to ever meeting her. He tells her that he will give her a year to fall in love with him. In the meantime, he tries to seduce her with food, money, and his body. She is stubborn and won’t let it happen.
The film does make Stockholm Syndrome look like fun and sexy. Massimo tries to use this in order to get Laura to marry him. Falling in love with him isn’t possible for her at first, but the more time she spends with him, the more she begins to see how much she cares about him.
Viewers of the film took to social media to explain their feelings on how the film glamorized Stockholm Syndrome. One wrote, “You basically watch her get Stockholm Syndrome. That is not love, Laura.” Another wrote, “Watched 365 DNI because of the noise it created. Can I just say that the movie is TOO OVERRATED. I can only cringe over their lines, predictable story plot, and unrealistic twists. You know what it is called when you fall in love with your kidnapper? It’s Stockholm Syndrome. Not love, sis.” Are you ready to watch it? Give it a try and you will see just how Stockholm Syndrome looks like a fantasy in this movie, and one should note, that it is not.
