Netflix‘s ‘Abla Fahita: Drama Queen’ is a new series coming to the streaming service that many U.S. viewers may not know, myself included. I had to Google what was going on in this trailer as I had no idea who Abla Fahita was.
Turns out Abla is an Egyptian satirical puppet that was introduced in 2010. In 2014, she started a show called Abla Fahita Live on the CBC channel. Now, she’s coming to Netflix. Take a look at the interesting trailer below that was uploaded with the following description,
“Tokyo”, “Queen’s Gambit”, “Aseel Omran” … Who can take on the role of (Abla) in her upcoming Netflix drama?
The world’s asking and (Abla) has the answer.
“Abla Fahita: Drama Queen” coming soon exclusively on Netflix.”

Viewers commented on the trailer, “When he showed Tokyo’s picture, I literally jumped and thought that this was the trailer for the new season of money heist.”, “I like how Netflix introduces us to shows from around the world.”, “What is this… What if Netflix brings that fever dream dinossaur show back? That would be bazongas”, “The translation is awful as usual!, Just ruined 50% of the content” and “Wow.. Abla Fahita, the most famous egyptian puppet, is getting her own netflix show! Sign me up, I’m excited!”
As you can see, Abla Fahita has quite the following in Egypt and is now coming to the rest of the world. It will be interesting to see comedy from a different culture like this, as it’s usually lost in translation. According to one of the commenters above, the translation was awful, so that doesn’t give me a lot of faith. Hopefully, they can clean it up in the actual series.
