Is Jeffree Star really retiring from YouTube?

With the new installment of Shane Dawson’s documentary “The New World of Jeffree Star“, Shane hinted that Jeffree was going to make a hell of an announcement that was “going to piss a lot of people off” but said that he wanted Jeffree to be the one to say it, so that is why the crew went jetting off to Wyoming so that he could make the announcement there.

This is the first time that the Star Ranch, other than the gates, has been filmed by anyone other than Jeffree Star (and that one Tiktokker who wasn’t allowed to keep his phone past a certain point), we had all seen the house in a lot of Jeffree’s own vlogs but Shane said he had never seen the house from that angle before.

Is Jeffree Star really retiring from YouTube?

After meeting all of Jeffree’s dogs (they were indeed the cutest part of this entire documentary experience), Jeffree took Shane, his boyfriend Ryland Adams and camera man Chris on a tour of the house. Ryland really seemed to like that house, then again Ryland grew up in Utah so he’s used to wide open spaces, even though for awhile there we were pretty sure that he was homesick for LA and didn’t like Montana.

Jeffree joked that they didn’t have a gay culture in Wyoming and there were no gay clubs but it was pretty clear that he was joking. After all, if that were true where would he find all the ranch hands? Just saying.

While taking a tour of the house, Jeffree decided it was time to announce his retirement. He said “Two more videos and I’m done.” And said that no one watches YouTube anymore, no one watches long form content anymore, but not to worry, he spoke highly of Tiktok and has expressed desire to do more stuff there.

But as for YouTube he says that no one cares about it anymore because during the pandemic all the streaming services launched and now everyone is watching them instead of YouTube. He has a point, with TikTok being a bigger thing now and all the streaming services competing for airtime, YouTube is hard pressed to find airtime these days.

But we wouldn’t go as far as to say that it’s dead, it’s simply having a lull in popularity right now. Chances are, there will be a spike in long form content again someday and YouTube will have it’s revival but until then don’t count on Jeffree Star to stick around, while it bounced back.

It seems for now he is sticking primarily to launching products and running the business but as for doing videos, well, those days are numbered. Or at least that’s what he said in this installment. We’ll see. Stay tuned!!!
