Looks like there has been an epic win for the #MeToo movement. Oscar Winning Producer Harvey Weinstein who did the films Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare in Love was just sentenced to 16 years in prison for a rape that he committed in 2013.
Prosecutors in the case had originally recommended that he gets the maximum of 24, but the judge was feeling generous or felt some genuine pity for this once powerful Hollywood Big Wig. He pleased through tears with a shaking voice, “Please don’t sentence me to life in prison.” The defense asked the judge to please consider the fact that Weinstein suffers from Coronary Artery disease and has severe spinal issues, so much so that he is in a wheelchair. He is also 70 years old.
Harvey Weinstein SLAMMED with 16 year prison sentence!
His victim, an actress simply known as Jane Doe #1, said that while she was “once a happy and confident woman.” After the rape, “I lost my identity. I thought for sure no one could love me. I was heartbroken, empty, and alone.” the incident occured in an LA hotel room in February of 2013. Of course Weinstein maintained that he did not know Jane Doe #1 and that she made up the entire encounter for fame and money.
He insists that all of his sexual encounters have been consensual. “This is a made up story. Jane Doe #1 is an actress, she can turn the tears on.” The defense of course backed him up, and as a result there was a mistrial declared in the trial of Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of Governor Gavin Newsom who was originally ly Jane Doe #4 in one of the suits.
Jane Does #1’s attorney, Dave Ring, said that the sentence “provided his client with closure and relief knowing that Weinstein will spend the rest of his life in prison where he belongs.” Weinstein was found guilty in New York in 2020 and is currently appealing the conviction and prison sentence. He was extradited from New York to LA in July of 2021 to face charges in Los Angeles. We’ll keep our ears to the ground for this one. Stay tuned!!!
