Maurice Benard’s State of Mind welcomed Lexi Ainsworth this week. If you haven’t been watching General Hospital, she plays Kristina Corinthos-Davis, Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) daughter. Recently, Ainsworth blew us away with her character’s reaction to Sonny coming back from the dead. Personally, we think she owned everyone else in that family in that scene and it needs an award. For now, let’s talk about some highlights of their chat.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind gets down to basics
First, Maurice Benard’s State of Mind opened as they usually do. He asked Ainsworth about where she grew up, which led to a cute moment. After teasing that he has Google at his fingertips, she mentioned Wikipedia is not always accurate.
Apparently, she was briefly listed as being a soccer player from the UK. Aisnworth joked she thought it was cool, so she didn’t bother to get it changed. We liked the sense of humor in that, and think that’s one of the funniest “where are you from” moments on the show yet.
After that, she did get into living in Oklahoma and what it was like living there. She described it as a safe place where she had a lot of independence growing up. Benard shared that his first appearance for a soap was in the state, although he doesn’t remember a lot of the details of the event.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind goes deep
Funny enough, the chat about her background led to her opening up about her struggle with anxiety. Growing up in Oklahoma, Benard asked her about tornadoes, which she didn’t really experience much of. She remembered hearing the alarms and going into the basement, but she never saw one herself.
This led to Earthquakes, which made Ainsworth admit she goes to worse-case scenarios a lot of the time. Ainsworth didn’t really fully understand she had anxiety until she was older, and her mother told her she’d always dealt with this. For Ainsworth, her anxiety also led to stomach issues.
During that part of the chat, she shared how therapy helped her a lot. It’s given her lots of tools to deal with all the stuff she’s got going on. She also shared how her weekly appointments have gone to every couple of weeks, unless there’s something in particular going on at the time. They bonded over how anxiety can spiral and how it’s important to keep on top of things.
We loved when she spoke in particular about keeping a gratitude journal where she lists three things a day she’s grateful for. It’s something we do ourselves, and a great tool. However, she and Benard both agreed they’re not good with regular journaling.

Another cool part of the conversation was when Benard asked her about the abuse Kristina suffered and how she prepared for that story. Ainsworth talked about going to a shelter and speaking with people who’d been in that situation. She felt it was important to do the story justice and talked about what she learned on the subject. Check out the chat to see Ainsworth talk about the reunion with Sonny, school, loss, and more.
