Maurice Benard’s State of Mind is back with another episode. This time, he kept the trend of GH co-stars going by having James Patrick Stuart on the show. Let’s take a look at some highlights of the conversation.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Welcome, James

First, Maurice started this week’s by saying this episode is a can’t miss. Why? Because he says they’re so alike, it’s unreal. The intro led to them breaking up in laughter, and it made us see the similarity, for sure. These two have smiles that light up their face and you can see in that smile and hear in their laugh how much fun it was for them to chat.

Stuart followed up the introduction by talking about how much he enjoyed Maurice’s book and how it led him to realize how similar they are. He went into a little detail about their mutual experiences before Benard went into Stuart’s resume. We love how varied it is. He did professional Shakespeare while in London and gave fans a look at how he sounded on stage. But there’s also music as well as some comedy in his background. We recently saw the actor in a Seinfeld rerun.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: On acting and personal struggles

They also got into the acting thing during the chat. Benard shared what he called a somewhat selfish view where he wants someone to be good, because then he and others in the scene look good. He also spoke a little about how one has to struggle a bit with the ego during interviewing so they don’t make the interview all about them instead of the subject.

As for Stuart, he talked about how he’s wanted to put on a persona, but ultimately, it’s better  to be real and vulnerable because it can help someone. He also pointed out how much he respects Benard for writing his book and getting those stories out there.

As for Stuart’s own struggles, he spoke about self-medication anxiety with weed and alcohol. However, when he was younger, he did get some professional help when his father made him see someone for the anxiety that was turning to anger.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Consequences and Giving back

In Maurice Benard’s State of Mind, they get real about their struggles and Stuart was honest about the effect his self-medicating took on him professionally. At first, it worked for him, but that didn’t last. He describes being unemployable, for one. And personally, he lost a girlfriend who decided he was too dangerous at the time to be around. The situation eventually became unsustainable and he turned things around by embracing self-improvement.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: More similarities

Also, Maurice Benard’s State of Mind led us to something we hadn’t been aware of previously. They have another similarity in their use of Instagram. While Benard started SoM by doing some Instagram story chats, Stuart reads children’s stories on his. He looks at it as a way of giving back, and Benard encouraged him in the practice. He pointed out Stuart might not know where he could go from there, given how his own Instagram thing turned out.

Check out the full chat to see some more of what they had to say, as well as some moving talk about his father’s passing.

She’s a recent Days of Our Lives convert, having grown up on the nighttime shows of the '90s. She’s also an accomplished writer in many fields, including paranormal fiction. As a published and accomplished writer, she knows how to get into the minds of the writers and is usually bang on in predicting plot twists before they come to life. When she’s not writing for Daily Soap Dish, Jamie binge watches telenovelas as a way to improve her Spanish. They also fuel her muse, which tends to upset her readers.
