Maurice Benard’s State of Mind once more delved into the past of a co-star. This time, he spoke with Cynthia Watros, who plays Nina Reeves on General Hospital. It was an interesting chat that delved into childhood, her past roles, and a moment she is not proud of. Let’s talk about some highlights.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Going deep
First, Maurice Benard’s State of Mind can go places you might not expect and fast. That was the case this time, as well. The conversation went from Benard being impressed by the length of her resume to a health battle in no time. Watros revealed fighting a rare blood disorder when in school and the effect it had on her school life. She joked that State of Mind went deep fast after putting that out there.
They also talked a bit about growing up in a small town and how she had a bit of an unstable home life as well. After that, the conversation turned to somewhat lighter things for a bit.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: On acting
Often, the guests talk about the business they’re a part of. For Watros, she talked about the boredom of the business, but for her, it’s different. She admits that retakes and things like that can be boring, but she has such a deep love for the craft that she likes even the boring parts. Thanks to the encouragement of a professor who let her audit a class, Watros kept going and eventually landed parts.
Of course, it’s sometimes hard in the business and Watros mentioned she did experience some issues from doing a lot of comedy when it came to landing other types of roles again. One of those parts was on Lost, where she experienced one of her low points when she got a DUI. She described it as not one of her proudest moments, and thinks it might have had an impact on the path her character on the show took. Check out the interview for more.
Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: On GH and couples
Finally, Maurice Benard’s State of Mind delved a bit into the Nixon Falls thing. Apparently, her previous role of Guiding Light made her wary of this story. After all, she was potentially getting in the middle of a popular pairing and she’s seen what can come from that. But she spoke about how she and Benard pulled off the story together, and she feels grateful for the chance.
Also, she spoke a bit about Nina’s state of mind and how she’s not all there, but the complexity of the part was great to play. She talked about how everyone lies and makes mistakes, but it’s all about what happens after the lie. So, we’re looking forward to seeing where this might go on screen.
