Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is looking at six charges following his arrest for a shooting on Monday in San Joe, California, however, he’s getting plenty of people to stand by him as he looks at potential decades in prison.
The details around the shooting have caused people to sympathize with Velasquez and his actions. While shooting at someone’s car obviously sounds bad, the reason why feels much worse. The man he was shooting at, Henry Goularte, molested one of Velasquez’s close relatives, and even after being arrested, was released from jail last Friday!
#FreeCainVelasquez Trends As UFC Legend Gets Support From Fellow Fighters Following Shooting
While vigilante justice may never be the case for some people, others have looked at the situation through a new lens, and understand the anger and frustration that was going through Cain’s mind. Fellow UFC fighter are choosing to stand with Cain though, like Ronda Rousey, Eddie Alvarez, and Junior Dos Santos.
I would have done the same thing if not worse #freeCainVelasquez

The justice system failed Cain Valasquez and his family … any normal man would do the same . If the justice system did their job properly he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do what he did . My heart is with him and his loved ones and I stand with them . #FreeCain

But until then I believe any honest parent would do the same if they were in his shoes. May justice be done and Cain can be where he belongs to be with his family as soon as possible. #freeCain #IstandwithCain

This has caused a lot of people in the Twitter comments to express their distaste for what happened and even for these people coming to Cain’s defense. It’s hard to imagine until we put ourselves in his shoes, and what happened was a gross failure of the justice system by letting the molester back out on the streets.
We watched television and movies about this very thing and praise it, until it happens in real life.
I’m not saying what Cain did was 100% right and he should get off scot-free but it is definitely painted in a new light since the information has come out.
As of now, Cain is still facing 6 charges, but it will be interesting to see if the judge grants him a bit of leniency based on the circumstances.
