Daniel Cormier has constantly shocked the world with his impressive performances in the UFC. However, he revealed last weekend that he would be retiring from MMA after being beaten by Stipe Miocic in their trilogy fight.
He is rightly regarded as one of the best MMA athletes of all-time, and is one of a select number of fighters that has held titles in every promotion that he has competed in.
During his time in UFC, he held titles at both heavyweight and light heavyweight class. It would come as no surprise given his wrestling background that he has already been linked with a move to the WWE, but could it happen?
WWE News: Cormier Reveals Discussions
Cormier has constantly fuelled the fire, as he revealed that himself and the WWE have been in discussions about how they could potentially work together in the future.
It was revealed that he was offered a role on the WWE Backstage show, but ultimately it wasn’t to be. Cormier is a life-long WWE fan, and will likely be all ears should the WWE make an interesting offer.
Due to Cormier being a fan of the WWE and the work that they do, it would seem a natural progression for Cormier to make the transition. That door has already been opened by a number of superstars making the move with Cain Velasquez taking on Brock Lesnar last year. Ronda Rousey, Matt Riddle and Shayna Baszler have all enjoyed careers in MMA before transitioning to the WWE.
WWE News: Which Superstars Could Cormier Take On?
There will certainly be a long list of superstars that would be intrigued with the prospect of taking on Cormier, but maybe none of those are more appealing than Lesnar. Lesnar and Cormier do appear to have unfinished business after the Beast stormed the ring after Cormier won the heavyweight championship.
It would be a natural progression that the story plays out on WWE programming, and it would certainly get mainstream attention. Bobby Lashley could also benefit from working against Cormier, as the feud would be enough to establish Lashley as one of the top guys in the company. Both also share experience in MMA, which would make for an interesting story to tell on the television.
