Comedian Ricky Gervais is not backing down from the criticism and hate he received from his new Netflix special ‘SuperNature’. In the special he even explains irony and jokes and people still don’t seem to understand, and that’s what he is defending, jokes.
Critics have claimed his special is ‘transphobic’ and whatnot, but Gervais believes that’s what comedy is all about. He told BBC One’s ‘The One Show’,
“I think that’s what comedy is for — getting us over taboo subjects, so they’re not scary anymore. It’s like a parachute jump — it’s scary, but then you land and it’s all OK.”

Gervais actually ended the show by saying he’s a supporter of trans rights and it echoed Dave Chappelle’s comments from his latest Netflix special. Hilariously, as I mentioned before, Ricky explained the irony in his jokes, and even explained that he says things to be funny and he doesn’t actually believe what he is saying. He basically explained how comedy works and people are still not understanding and claiming he’s just a hateful person.
However, Gervais continues to stand strong and explained that he believes the audience can handle dark humor, “Real life is much worse. These are just jokes. They don’t mean anything. They’re just for you to laugh for an hour or so.”
I agree with Gervais, laughter, and humor are what get us through our day and if we never coped with these ideas we would probably lose our minds (maybe that’s what’s going on?).
“Humor gets us over bad stuff. That’s why I laugh about terrifying bad things. You know, that’s why comedians are obsessed with death because, you know, it gets us through . . . it’s an inoculation to the real things that are going to happen.”
Gervais’ Netflix special is available to watch now and I would suggest giving it a watch for yourself and forming your own opinion.
