Can you imagine if everyone Ricky Gervais joked about at the Golden Globes would have walked up and slapped him? He’d have a purple, swollen cheek and would be bleeding. However, this is exactly what Will Smith did to Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife.
After the incident, Ricky Gervais was trending on Twitter and hilariously, he wasn’t even there. Of course, as the resident celebrity mocker and comedian, everyone wanted to know what he thought of the joke and it’s exactly as you would expect.
People wanted to know and he responded during his performance in London saying he would not have joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair, he would have gone harder. He revealed what he would have said,
“I would not have made a joke about his wife’s hair. I would have made a joke about her boyfriend.”

This is in obvious reference to R&B singer August Alsina, which Pinkett referred to as an ‘entanglement’ and revealed that she had cheated on Will Smith with him during a podcast, going further and saying that had Will loved her enough, he would have known.
This is where many people take the joke, and while we laugh about it and say it online, there is not one doubt that Gervais would have said it right there and then. It would have been hilarious and he may not have been so respectful about getting slapped, whereas Chris Rock hasn’t pressed any charges.
If Will and Jada thought Rock making a G.I. Jane joke was bad, I would have loved to see their reaction to Gervais mocking August.
