Prince Harry is not unlike the shamed King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne on December 10, 1936. It was a scandal for the ages, as the King left his royal duties behind to marry American divorcee and socialite Wallis Simpson.
Edward Was The Only Monarch In 1,000 Years To Abdicate The Throne
It can be said that Edward didn’t know what he was doing. However, the Duke of Sussex, on the other hand, just had to refer to the royal family’s history to see the kind of exile he was in for by abandoning his crown.
Edward was the only monarch in 1,000 years to abdicate the throne and was universally shunned for his decision. Only a weak man would desert his people and place of nobility for a woman of questionable ilk.
Harry stepped down as a working royal in January 2020 and fled the UK with his wife, Meghan Markle. It is only now that Harry wants to return to the royal fold on a “part-time basis,” as if he’s a cashier at a grocery store.
Queen Elizabeth clarified that there would be no “half-in, half-out royals. The sovereign, dedicated to her royal duties until the very day she died, would not tolerate such flakiness.
Harry thinks he can change the rules now that the Queen is gone. Harry and Edward are almost 100 years apart in the royal family’s history. However, they have a lot in common, even though Harry is a spare, and Edward was born to be King.
Edward served in World War I, and Harry completed two tours in Afghanistan and was an Apache helicopter commander. Edward just barely made it when an enemy shell hit his car.
Both men were moved to help their fellow soldiers. Harry famously created the Invictus Games for disabled war veterans.
Both Prince Harry And King Edward Wrote Tell-All Memoirs That Caused Scandals
Edward drank and slept around. Harry has been known to use alcohol and other substances to escape. Both fell in love with and married strong, ambitious women. Wallis and Meghan are both known for their notoriously “difficult” personalities.
Wallis became bored with life outside of the royal family. Will Meghan soon feel the same way? Both women coerced their respective husbands away from their royal lives.
The Duchess of Windsor and the Duchess of Sussex both have borderline narcissistic personalities and experience poor relationships with the royal family.

The Duke of Edinburgh also predicted, fairly early on, that Meghan would be “disruptive” to the royal family. He never succumbed to Meghan’s charms.
Harry and Edward wrote tell-all memoirs for big money, which caused scandals for both men that alienated them from the royal family.
Harry and Edward wanted to return to the “circle of trust.” Both men were estranged from their brothers, Harry with the future King, Prince William, and Edward with the brother who stepped into his place, King George VI.
Neither man learned that being part of the royal family is a privilege that should inspire loyalty, gratitude, and dedicated service.
