Kate Middelton honored the late Queen Elizabeth II today by wearing her pearl earrings and necklace as she attended a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark the monarch’s 100th birthday.
King Charles Invited Those Who Were Also Celebrating Their 100th Birthday
Prince William attended the event with his lovely wife, Princess Catherine. Kate wore a bespoke lavender dress by Emilia Wickstead.
The Queen cherished the pearls gifted to her by the Hakim of Bahrain for her wedding to Prince Philip. The earrings were Her Majesty’s favorite pair.
She loaned them to the late Princess Diana and, later, to Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. However, since Remembrance Sunday in 2016, Kate has worn the earrings exclusively.
The three-strand pearl necklace was worn regularly by the Queen. Kate joined William, along with King Charles and Queen Camilla, at the reception celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s life and legacy.
The King invited those celebrating their 100th birthdays. Other members of the royal family who attended the reception included Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Alexandra, and the Duke of Kent were also in attendance. In honor of the Queen’s 100th birthday, the royals enjoyed several events.
Yesterday, the King and Camilla visited a fashion exhibit at Buckingham Palace featuring the Queen’s favorite and most memorable outfits.
The exhibit is called “Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style.” It is the largest collection of the Queen’s clothing ever staged, displaying over 300 items, including her wedding dress and coronation gown.
The curator of the exhibition, Caroline de Guitaut, told People magazine,
“It is the most thorough examination of her clothing collection, which I hope will help visitors understand why fashion was so important in the Queen’s role.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton Shared a Birthday Post for Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday
The Prince and Princess of Wales marked Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday with a social media post,
“Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 100th anniversary of her birth. Inspiring generations through a lifetime of duty.”
The post featured photos of the Wales family, including their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Prince William spoke about his relationship with his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, during his interview with comedian Eugene Levy last year:
“My grandparents were of a different generation.”
He continued,
“I think when we were younger, it was harder to have that very close relationship because it was quite formal, but as they got older and I got older, it got warmer and warmer.”
William added,
“I definitely think my relationship was best with my grandparents when they were more in their sort of 80s, when they’d sort of relaxed a bit.”
Charities and organizations supported by the Queen also attended the reception, including Cancer Research UK and the Jockey Club.
A toy Paddington Bear was spotted peeking out from behind Queen Elizabeth II’s roses, created by Harkness Roses in 2021.
Charles and Camilla led the crowd in singing a spirited rendition of “Happy Birthday.” They cut a special cake for everyone’s birthday, made by the palace pastry chefs.
Queen Elizabeth II was considered the “rock” of Britain. She ruled longer than any other monarch in British history. The Queen was the most famous and widely respected monarch in modern history.
