‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal that Kate Mansi, who plays Kristina Corinthos Davis on the soap, recently shared with People magazine that she learned more about Endometriosis from playing on GH.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: March Is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and Kate Mansi Shared Her Story with People Magazine
Her on-screen sister, Molly Lansing Davis (Kristen Vaganos), is currently tackling the medical condition, which affects millions of women around the globe.
March is Endometriosis Awareness month, and Mansi opened up about how she, too, found out she had Endometriosis.
At the time, Kate was playing Abigail Deveraux DiMera on the Peacock soap, Days of Our Lives. She began experiencing severe nausea and pain, and her stomach became distended.
Mansi shared,
“It had been going on for a couple of days, and doctors just kept dismissing it. I think as a society, we are so ingrained to just listen to what the doctors say and abandon what we feel.”
She continued,
“I went to these appointments, and they said, ‘Oh, maybe the pain is because your IUD is turning.’ And then I would do an ultrasound and, ‘No, it’s not my IUD.’ ‘Okay, well maybe it’s just a bad period.’
The actress divulged that she had been getting very nauseous and throwing up for several days. The doctors suggested to her that perhaps it was “the flu.”
Mansi was in so much pain, but continued her work on DOOL. However, she found that she was struggling to get through each day.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Actress Had to Have Emergency Surgery to Remove a Mass on Her Abdomen, or She Would Die
Finally, Mansi drove herself to the emergency room, where she was met by her mother and her stepfather, who is an OBGYN.
She discovered she had an 11- centimeter mass in her abdomen. Her stepfather strongly advised her to have an emergency surgery.
Her stepfather realized that if she didn’t have the surgery, she wasn’t going to live. Doctors wanted Mansi to wait for the oncologist, but he pushed for the surgery.
Thankfully, Mansi agreed to have the surgery, which ended up saving her life. She told the outlet,
“I was in the worst pain of my life, and it turns out, I had an ovarian cyst rupturing, and I was working through it for days.”
During the surgery, Mansi’s stepfather found endometriotic tissue and confirmed she had Endometriosis. According to the Mayo Clinic,
“Endometriosis is an often painful condition in which tissue that is similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It often affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and the tissue lining the pelvis.”
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Mansi Directed the March 16th Episode of GH In Which Molly Has a Very Important Conversation About Endometriosis with Her Boyfriend, Cody
The actress went on to explain, “When I came out of surgery, I had lost so much blood that I needed blood transfusions.” She added, “And my stepdad told me, You have Endometriosis, and this is what that means. It was the first time I had ever heard that word.”
Mansi reported that the symptoms of her condition tend to change constantly “over the years, but they are much more stable now.” Another unfortunate symptom of endometriosis is infertility.
On GH, Mansi’s on-screen sister, Molly, was diagnosed with Endometriosis in 2023. In the March 16th episode of the soap, fans can expect her to have an in-depth discussion with her boyfriend, Cody Bell (Josh Kelly).
Mansi herself directed the March 16th episode of GH. Kate Mansi also went through freezing her eggs, so she and her husband, Matt McInnis, can have children and start a family one day when they are ready.
We applaud Kate for sharing the truth about her endometriosis diagnosis, so that other women can be encouraged to listen to their bodies and not take no for an answer when it comes to their health.
