Kate Middelton charmed in a beautiful Scarlett red silk gown designed by Sarah Burton for Givenchy as she made a significant return to royal duties today and attended her first State Banquet since her cancer diagnosis early last year. Thankfully, Kate is now cancer-free.
Kate And William Were A “Pitch Perfect Example” Of How To Perform Formal Proceedings
The Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte. All the while exchanging loving looks with her husband, Prince William, during the day’s formal proceedings ahead of the State Banquet dinner. A Daily Mail body language expert, Judi James, praised William and Kate’s “pitch-perfect example.”
The last state banquet Kate attended was in November 2023 for the South Korean State Visit. Kate wore the Lover’s Knot tiara, which was a favorite of Princess Diana’s. It was the first tiara she’d worn in a year and a half. The crown was initially designed for Queen Mary in 1914.
It was passed down from Queen Mary to Queen Elizabeth II and is now held by Kate. She accessorized with a pair of drop earrings from the late Queen Elizabeth II. Kate also carried a matching Scarlett Lily of the valley embroidered clutch purse.
The future Queen wore a red, blue, and white sash that symbolized her position as the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. During the day, Kate opted for a low-key pale pink outfit and hat by Dior. She wore her long, chestnut hair down in cascading waves.
After meeting William and Kate, several dignitaries were presented to the French couple, including the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London and Sir Kenneth Olisa.
King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales joined President Macron and his wife for the event, which was also attended by several notable figures, including David Furnish, Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger, Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, and Melanie Hamrick.
King Charles Delivered A Charming Toast In English And French
The King delivered a lovely toast in English and French, speaking of the centuries of shared history between the two cultures, poignantly noting,
“For centuries, our citizens have admired each other, amused each other, and imitated each other.”
He also stated that he
“remains in awe of France’s extraordinary attributes and achievements.”
President Macron was seated between Charles and Kate while his wife, Brigitte, sat next to Camilla and William.
Sir Elton John was seated next to the Duchess of Gloucester. Other royals who attended the event included Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Interestingly, for the State Banquet dinner, guests were served drinks. On the drink menu was a 1948 Grand Champagne Cognac and a 1977 Vintage Port. They were selected to represent the years of the King’s and the President’s respective birth years.
President Macron’s three-day state visit to the UK was the first to be hosted at Windsor Castle, rather than Buckingham Palace, in over a decade since that of the Irish President, Michael D. Higgins.
Kate and William were the picture of diplomacy during the occasion. The French state visit is the first of King Charles III’s reign.
