Princess Diana Passed Away at Age 36
Diana was 36 years old on the day of her untimely death, and much of the world still remembers where they were when they found out about her tragic passing.
After Diana’s separation from Prince Charles, the royal was often alone as her two young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, were away at boarding school.
Diana was lovingly known as “The People’s Princess,” a title that was never more evident than on her final birthday. She had received cards by the truckloads and at least 70 bouquets of fragrant flowers before her staff had to stop counting.
Royal expert and Daily Mail journalist Richard Kay remembers fondly that she called him and sang “Happy Birthday” to herself.
The flowers arrived in her room from the charities she selflessly and tirelessly supported, as well as to her close friends, loved ones, and millions of admirers.
Interestingly, a lavish bouquet of roses and orchids was sent to the Princess from none other than Donald Trump. However, it arrived two days after her birthday. The Princess didn’t even want the flowers in her home.
Diana later described her impression of Trump to broadcaster Selina Scott and told her he was a “creep.” Apparently, Trump had previously made a crude remark that he could “nail her.”
For Diana, her birthday was not an excuse to skip out on her charity work, which was very close to her heart.
Diana Went To A Charity Event At The Tate Gallery On Her Birthday
That evening, she changed into her black Jacques Azagury dress, which she accessorized with an emerald choker and a pair of designer heels to attend, as the guest of honor, a charity event at the Tate gallery.
A host of famous figures attended the party. The list included comedian Steve Martin, rock star David Bowie’s wife, Iman, model Laura Bailey, singer Bryan Ferry, and the talented young artist Damien Hirst.
Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, was also present. She greeted her beloved sibling with a kiss on the cheek.
Diana’s 64th birthday was marked today with Prince William continuing her good work in her memory. The Prince of Wales met with Steven Bartlett and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown to celebrate the second anniversary of his Homewards initiative.
It’s a poignant day for the Prince of Wales, who was first made aware of the plight of the homeless thanks to his mother, Diana.
Princess Diana took William and his brother Harry to homeless shelters when they were young boys.
William’s Royal Foundation’s Homeward program has set out with an ambitious purpose: to end homelessness and to make it a brief, rare, and unrepeated occurrence.
The project has also launched a new early intervention initiative in schools. This will help to identify young people most at risk for homelessness and secure funds for Homewards locations.
What Prince William is doing is tackling a major social issue head-on and saying, “This is not inevitable. This is preventable.” The People’s Princess would be proud.
