King Charles III’s official birthday celebration was held today as today’s Trooping the Color ceremony brought several members of the royal family together to honor His Majesty.
Princess Kate And Her Daughter Charlotte Wore Matching Blue Outfits
As the parade commenced, King Charles and Queen Camilla were seen waving and smiling. They continued down the Mall in an open-top carriage.
The national British anthem was played as they proceeded to the Horse Guards Palace. Prince William also rode on horseback. Kate Middelton rode in the carriage with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Speaking of Louis, he was uncharacteristically well-behaved this year. Last year, he was seen dancing during the march of the Scots Guards.
Kate and Charlotte shared a sweet moment as they laughed together, wearing coordinating outfits for the occasion. The Princess of Wales was seen in a powder blue Catherine Walker ensemble, one of her favorite designers.
Princess Kate looked elegant and regal as always. The brand described Kate’s look as “a deep aquamarine wool coatdress with ivory contrast lapels and cuffs, which she wore with a floral hat of the same color.”
Charlotte wore a matching easter egg blue dress and an adorable white bow in her semi-braided hair. Kate’s daughter also paid a moving tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II by re-wearing the diamond horseshoe brooch she wore to her great-grandmother’s funeral.
This special brooch has been in the royal family for generations and pays tribute to the Queen’s love of horses.
King Charles Did Not Ride On Horseback While Princess Anne Road For The First Time Since Her Injury
The royals also wore black armbands in remembrance of those killed in the Air India plane crash late last week.
His Majesty requested a moment of silence to be held during the ceremony in honor of the passengers and crew who perished. Almost 300 people were killed, and only one person survived. The King’s grandchildren were seen bowing their heads in respect.
Charles did not ride on horseback this year and instead opted to ride in the carriage with Camilla. However, Princess Anne made a triumphant reappearance in today’s Trooping the Color parade.
It was her first time riding on horseback in public since her injury. She was in an accident involving a horse last June at her Gatcombe estate in Gloucestershire.
Others on horseback who wore the black armbands included Prince William, Colonel Welsh Guards, Colonel Blues and Royals, the Duke of Edinburgh, and Colonel Scots Guards.
The King’s grandchildren really shone on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The royals were treated to the celebratory flyover of the Red Arrows following the annual parade.
The Red Arrows have been participating in the flypast since 1965. Today, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team made history by utilizing ecological fuel and vegetable oil for their flypast over London. The King is recognized for his strong advocacy of climate action and sustainability.
In her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, the Princess of Wales stood next to the King and Queen on the dais. This year, the honor of trooping the Color goes to the Coldstream Guards. They presented their regimental flag to King Charles.
Kate Channeled The Late Queen Elizabeth II With Her Loving Glance At Prince William
Kate stole a tender look at her husband, William, as he rode on horseback, which is said to compare to a sweet photograph of the late Queen Elizabeth II, shooting a loving glance at her husband, the late Prince Phillip, in 2009.
In the iconic snap, Her Majesty beams at Phillip as they travel together by carriage for Trooping the Color in 2009.
The comparison was even more notable considering Kate and the Queen both wore aqua blue outfits and hats, which was made apparent in a side-by-side photo.
Royal fans gathered around to catch a glimpse of the royal family while standing in the rain. As the ceremony concluded, the royal family made their group appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
The senior royals spotted on the balcony included King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and the Princess of Wales. Their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, were also in attendance.
Other royals included the King’s sister, Princess Anne, alongside her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and her husband, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, and the Duke of Gloucester, who was joined by his wife, Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, were all in attendance.
Trooping the Color is a centuries-old tradition that marks the Sovereign’s official birthday. The occasion dates back to the 17th century in honor of a battlefield custom. It is based on when the regimental flags, or “colors,” were trooped in front of soldiers to ensure they would be recognized during battle.
