Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary tomorrow, April 29, in Scotland. The royal couple were married on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey.
Kate’s Alexander McQueen Wedding Dress Is Iconic
While in Scotland, they will undertake a number of engagements in Tobermory and visit a community hub and artisan market. They plan to rent a house on the Scottish Isles.
This wedding anniversary is their first since Kate announced she’s cancer-free. The couple and their family endured what William described last autumn as “a brutal year.”
It is also the first time William and Kate have visited the Inner Hebrides. It is understood that William and Kate will be visiting both the Mull of Isles and Iona.
Mull and Iona are both beautiful places with an abundance of wildlife, epic mountains, lush green forests, astonishing beaches, and cascading waterfalls. Mull is known for a plethora of independent businesses.
In Scotland, the Prince and Princess of Wales are known as “the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.” The purpose of their trip is to promote rural island communities and the awe-inspiring environment in which they reside.
The Archbishop of Canterbury performed William and Kate’s wedding ceremony. A ravishing Kate wore a stunning Alexander McQueen wedding dress designed by one of Kate’s favorite designers, Sarah Burton.
The dress was made of an ivory, satin-based crepe and had an elegant lace bodice. The details in the dress were elaborate and included hand-cut lace roses, daffodils, thistles, and shamrocks.
The unforgettable gown was a fashion-forward mix of ivory and white. The bridal train measured two meters.
The couple’s wedding cake was a traditional fruitcake with eight tiers that featured 900 individually iced water lilies, milk chocolate leaves, and a chocolate biscuit cake topped with marzipan.
The chocolate biscuit cake was William’s childhood favorite. The royal couple decided to go with this cake as an alternative to a traditional royal wedding cake.
Kate And William Met At St. Andrew’s University In 2001
The long-anticipated kiss between the newly pronounced husband and wife was the epitome of romance. Royal fans were treated to a second kiss as the moment was captured on giant screens across London in Hyde Park.
The wedding was one of the most celebrated in royal history. The couple earned their big day in spades as, at one point, Kate had garnered the nickname “Waity Katey” after she was seen attending weddings with William.
Critics claim she was hanging on, waiting for Prince William to pop the question. William and Kate connected in September 2001 at St. Andrews University.
The Prince bonded with Kate over their mutual love of sports and school. William didn’t look at Kate as a love interest until she participated in a school fashion show for charity. She boldly strutted her stuff on the runway, wearing a provocative sheer black dress with a turquoise band across her bust.
If her goal was to get Prince William’s attention, mission accomplished. They announced their engagement in November 2010 and were married the following year.
From their time as students at St. Andrew’s University to celebrating their ivory anniversary, William and Kate’s love story is a real-life fairytale romance that has only just begun.
