There is big news coming from the MLB this week and it concerns  Matt Harvey. They have proven that he had involvement with the distribution of prohibited drugs to Tyler Skaggs before his death.

    The Incident

It looks as if the Baltimore Orioles minor league pitcher is now suspended for 60 days. The league made a statement, “The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced that Baltimore Orioles pitcher, Matt Harvey has received a 60-game suspension without pay for participating in the distribution of prohibited Drug of Abuse in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The start date of Harvey’s 60-game suspension is retroactive to April 29, 2022.”

Harvey was put on trial earlier in the year where he was found guilty on charges of distributing drugs that led to the death of Skaggs. Harvey was working with another man, Eric Kay. He will be sentenced in June for this. The U.S. Attorney’s Office told the press, “According to evidence presented at trial, Mr. Kay distributed the pills that killed Mr. Skaggs.”

Skaggs was a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels and he died at the age of 27. He was found in his hotel room and the cause of his death was a mixture of “alcohol, fentanyl, and oxycodone intoxication with a terminal aspiration of gastric contents.”

The Orioles have yet to make a comment on Harvey’s suspension. MLB.com made a statement about the drug charges, “We support all aspects of MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and their ruling in this particular case. I am glad that Matt now has the opportunity to put this part of his past behind him and pursue another shot with our organization after serving his suspension.”

Harvey began in the MLB back in 2010. He was drafted as the seventh pick for the New York Mets. He has also played for the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels, and Kansas City Royals. He then signed with the Orioles in 2021.

We will continue to keep an eye on this case and to see what is next for Harvey. We will also check to see what is going on with the sentencing in June. There is a lot to tackle in this case. We will wait for the team to make a statement or for Harvey to make a statement. He still has yet to reach out to his fans on social media either.
