Jussie Smollett is in the limelight after just months after being released from jail and after he attended the BET Awards, was roasted online after showing up with nothing but a smile on and telling ET that he was excited to be ‘expanding his empire.’
Jussie still insists that he was completely innocent and the victim of a homophobic and racist attack, because if he did make it up, he’d be “a total piece of s–t”. However, people were not thrilled about his attendance and roasted him on Twitter for his lies and getting a slap on the wrist.
Jussie Smollett ROASTED After His Attendance At The BET Awards
A few tweets read, “Who let Jussie Smollett into the #BETAwards? This n—- faked a hate crime and blamed white people for it, and got a slap on the wrist. If you got money, regardless of race, you have privilege.” Another said, “We are way too forgiving as a people. We really let Jussie Smollett chill like this?! At the BET awards?! This should be a place of black excellence, not IG models, rapper baby mamas, and race-baiting liars.”
Even Taraji P. Henson, who has been a very vocal supporter of Smollett and co-starred with him on ‘Empire’, was silent about him at the ceremony.
Ironically, Jussie has a new project in the works and he’s partnered with BET to complete it. The upcoming project, “B-Boy Blue” is his directorial debut with BET prepared to put it on their streaming platform.
With the backlash from his appearance at the BET Awards, we wonder if they will backtrack on their deal and see the many people don’t want anything to do with a man who faked a hate crime. It’ll be interesting to see how the comments will affect their involvement together.
