Jussie Smollett has a new project that will come to streaming for the first time since the actor faked his hate crime in Chicago and he has some Hollywood friends in his corner. Jussie and Monami Productions head Mona Scott-Young were seen in New York City earlier this week and sources say they are discussing Smollett’s upcoming ‘B-Boy Blues’ which will stream on BET+.

Mona spoke to TMZ saying the film is, “a beautifully bold, funny, heartwarming bro-mance and I was thrilled to partner with Jussie to help this wonderful film gain greater exposure.”

She is also a big reason why the film is getting onto BET+ and out to larger audiences for Jussie.

Jussie actually started working on the project in 2019, prior to his hate crime hoax but had been delayed for obvious reasons between that and COVID-19. Mona had agreed to be involved in the film back when it first launched and wanted to stick with it despite everything that had happened.

As for the film itself, it’s already won some awards including the Narrative Feature Fan Favorite at the 2021 American Black Film Festival and will be released as part of BET+’s programming during Pride Month.

Jussie was sentenced to 5 months behind bars back in March but was released just a week later. He was found guilty on 5 of 6 felony counts against him for lying to Chicago police about being the victim of a hate crime.

While many will probably be unable to watch the film, others will be able to separate the art from the artists and give it a view. It is going to be an odd watch though, especially after what we know happened with Smollett.
