Linsey Godfrey understands why fans were upset by her abrupt departure from beloved sudser, Days of Our Lives, but she wants to clear up the rumors that are swirling as to why.
The actress, who also worked on The Bold and the Beautiful for over five years as Caroline Spencer was recently very open regarding her mental-health issues. Linsey is considered a Borderpolar, which means she has been diagnosed with Bipolar II and Borderline Personality Disorder.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Linsey Godfrey (ex-Sarah Horton) Shuts Down Rumors About Why She Left the Soap.
When fans jumped to the conclusion that her departure from the soap was tied up in her mental health, or previous cancer struggles– she was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin Lymphoma at age 17– Linsey decided to shut the rumor mill down once and for all.
Posting a message on Twitter the actress wrote:
“I wanted to be clear, me choosing to be open about my mental health has always been as a means to help normalize the conversation around mental health. I want to help destigmatize these issues. Not because I’m taking a break from acting for my own mental health.”
Continuing, she wrote, “I’m not sure how my history with cancer got brought into this, either. I’m an actor. Sometimes we’re working, and the other times, we’re auditioning. But making assumptions that it’s because of my mental health is the reason why me talking about mental-health issues is important.”
Godfrey had attempted to do her part in removing the stigma surrounding mental illness but, after seeing the rumors around her exit from the soap, realizes there are miles to go. She says she shared her diagnosis to illustrate how mental illness does not discriminate, nor stop Linsey from holding onto successful acting career.
One positive from Linsey addressing the rumors is that the discussion is yet again out in the open and Linsey is happy that fans feel brave enough to share their experiences with mental health struggles, also.
Will we see Linsey back on our screens anytime soon…I mean, Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer), Sarah’s jilted groom really, really needs her.
That rumor she did not address. We will all just have to watch Days of Our Lives, weekdays on NBC to find out!
