If there has been any comfort television that has helped us get through the sometimes challenging and very uncertain times that the coronavirus lockdown has provided us, it’s knowing that things will always turn out as a beautiful mess on the hit reality competition show, The Great British Bake Off.
The series, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK and on the online streaming giant Netflix in the U.S., is already two weeks into filming and will air their newest season by the end of the year. Here’s what you need to know.
The new season was supposed to begin filming back in April but was delayed by several months because of the global pandemic that has been the coronavirus. According to Deadline, Sky Studios CEO Gary Davey and chief commercial officer Jane Millichip both said that filming is underway and that so far everything is going as planned.

The cast and crew, which also include new presenter Matt Lucas, were quarantined for 14 days before filming began. Additional reports have also indicated that the show has been moved to a different location than its usual Welford Park home.
Millichip told a virtual Broadcasting Press Guild lunch: “It’s all happening in deep secret, somewhere in darkest deepest Britain in the shires.”
Davey added: “As you can imagine, there was a lot of work collaboratively between Love Productions and our COVID protocols team just to get that right.”
Sky Studios, which took full control of Love Productions back in February, revealed that they had at least 29 different television shows and projects delayed all across Europe because of Covid-19. So far only nine out of the 29 projects are back in production again, including the Great British Bake Off.
