If you’ve been around youtube in the past few years you’ll remember the fiasco that was Tana Con and how poorly it was organized and how people were standing for hours in the heat with no water, and Tana Mongeau allegedly made a killing off of all those “free” tickets that she was supposedly giving away and how everyone was supposed to get a free VIP pass and didn’t and how she almost got cancelled but was saved by Shane Dawson at the last minute, you know, back when he was likeable and before everyone remembered just how problematic he could be.
Well now, Tana Con is back in the news again because the organizer, Michael Weiss, has gone on Dr. Phil to tell his side of the story.
Tana Con Organizer speaks out
Why now? Because he’s starting a new music label with Daniel Cohn and probably due to his previous experience with Tana couldn’t get anyone to give a crap about this new business venture because if you google his name then Tana Con comes up and nobody really wants to be associated with that, I mean, can you blame them?
However this guy released a documentary on amazon called “Tana Con: What really happened” and has now gone on Dr. Phil to garner himself some attention by riding the coattails of what we thought was a dead social media disaster. (We should know better, it’s true what they say, once its on the internet, it’s there forever.)
Did Tana know about this episode? Yes. Last year she tweeted that she had been contacted by Dr. Phil to go on his show and expose all the tea and chose not to go. So Tana had her chance to go on there and set the record straight but in true Tana Mongeau fashion she chose not to show up, however somehow it all ended up working out in her favor anyway?
Weiss said that he had once owned a thriving event planning business but after he met Tana he was forced to file for bankruptcy and close down everything and has been the target of internet hate ever since. He went onto say that Dr. Phil was probably the only person who could relate to him, to which Dr. Phil replied, “I don’t know you ” OUCH!
The episode only went downhill from there because Dr. Phil went onto have an actual attendee of Tana Con, named Amanda, there who proceeded to call Weiss out on all the claims that he made. He claimed that there were food trucks outside when there weren’t and once the guests arrived inside the hotel, security would not allow them outside at all.
A detail which he did not seem to know, for someone who claimed to be totally on top of things and trying to lay the blame solely on Tana’s shoulders. He also said that TanaCon was planned months in advance and that was a complete lie because the attendee pointed out that Tana put out her anti vid-con video in April, decided to do her own con in May and in June was when Tana Con was actually held.
From some ex-staffers that Dr. Phil brought on we found out that Amanda was completely right and that as it turns out Michael only had 9 staffers planning Tana Con not one hundred as he was claiming.
And the security protocols which Dr. Phil brought up only had the bare minimum of what was required for an event and also Weiss only signed the security contracts on the day OF the event, Jun 22nd, so security did not even have a chance to really know what they were doing.
Also one ex-staffer said that the gift bags that Tana and Michael had claimed were so expensive were only about $10, so they really weren’t even the price of the tickets themselves. Surprise, surprise.
Tana reacted to this on her instagram stories by saying, “Thanks to Dr. Phil fir having my back.” and went onto say that she’s going to do a legitimate reaction video to the episode on her youtube channel. We’ll see. Stay tuned!!!
