Following reports that say alleged sexual trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre has slapped Prince Andrew with a lawsuit for sexual assault, it looks like the Duchess of York is still in his corner, giving his the support that he needs right now. Here’s what you need to know.
Sarah Ferguson Refuses To Leave Prince Andrew’s Side
Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, stating that Prince Andrew repeatedly sexually assaulted her when she was 17. Virginia has repeatedly made her allegations against dead but also disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Prince Andrew, but the lawsuit was the first time she has directly confronted Andrew in such a formal setting.
In a statement, Virginia said she was “holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me.”
Despite the allegations, reports say that Sarah has accompanied Prince Andrew to Balmoral for the royal’s annual visit to the Scottish castle. Earlier this year, the Duchess of York told People Magazine that regardless of what happens or what is said in the press, she feels like she has a duty to stick up for her ex-husband, especially for the sake of their two daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.
She said, “Whatever challenges he has, I will stand firm to the co-parenters we are together. I believe he’s a kind, good man, and he’s been a fabulous father to the girls.”
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace has denied the allegations that have been made against Prince Andrew, stating: “It is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.”
