Prince William has been dealt a couple of rough blows this year. His father was diagnosed with cancer after a corrective prostate procedure and announced in February that he was receiving treatment.
As if contending with his father’s illness wasn’t devastating enough, his wife was diagnosed with cancer after a stomach surgery in which her cancer was an incidental finding.
Prince William And Kate Middleton Endured The Media Circus
William has proven he’s a wonderful son and a loving husband who will take a step back to care for his family while holding down the fort when called upon.
The Prince of Wales had to take care of his wife and children first and foremost. He was noticeably absent from his godfather, King Constantine’s memorial service.
Treatment and recovery are challenging for any family, but the royal family is under constant scrutiny, and the Wales were under a microscope.
The burning question over the next couple of months, “Where is Kate?” She hadn’t been in public view since Christmas, and Kensington Palace was vague at best with an explanation.
The media circus was ongoing, as everyone felt they had the right to know Kate’s whereabouts and health status, as there was much speculation that she was ill.
Princess Catherine released a photo of her with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, for Mother’s Day.
The image was shared with the media, which sparked a controversy. Kate took the photo and did some light editing, and it became a big scandal, as several news agencies issued a “kill notice” on the picture. The public started to spread the lie that the royals couldn’t be trusted.
Wild conspiracy theories about Kate were rampant on social media. The rumors about the Princess of Wales ran the gamut. Everything from a bad haircut to a coma was the gossip that spread.
William Is Still At War With Harry
Everyone felt guilty when Kate announced in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was being treated for the disease.
Suddenly, everyone who spoke ill of Kate before this revelation apologized profusely and wished her well.
In September, Kate released a video saying she completed her chemotherapy and gave the public a heartfelt message,
“Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long,”
She said.
“To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey, I remain with you. Side by side. Hand in hand.”
In addition to the double cancer diagnosis, William’s tumultuous relationship with Prince Harry remains an endless headache.
The feuding royal brothers attended their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes’s funeral but did not say a word to each other. They sat as far away from each other as they could. It doesn’t look like William and Harry will reconcile anytime soon.
William was recently interviewed and provided insight into his annus horribilis, explaining that the past few months have been “brutal.”
When asked how this year had been for him as a husband, he lowered his head and said,
“Honestly? It’s been dreadful.”
“It’s probably been the hardest year of my life,”
He admitted.
“So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.”
“But I’m so proud of my wife; I’m proud of my father for handling the things that they have done,”
He said.
“But from a personal, family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
