Kate Middleton has had a challenging year filled with ups and downs. In January, Kensington Palace released a statement that the Princess had undergone abdominal surgery and would likely not return to her public duties until Easter.
Kate Middleton Wanted To Recover Away From The Spotlight
Over the next couple of months, Kate Middleton spent time out of the spotlight recovering, which proved difficult as everyone had questions concerning her whereabouts and why she wasn’t back at work.
With almost no notice, Prince William canceled his attendance at the memorial service of his godfather, King Constantine of Hellens. It was announced that the Prince could not come for “personal reasons.” No explanation was given.
A senior aide for His Majesty remarked,
“No constitutional responsibility sits on the Princess of Wales and never will. She is not in the line of succession,”
They explained.
“She plays an absolutely vital supporting role to the Prince of Wales, and in bringing up their children who are in the line of succession. But she herself is not. Her situation is different, and it can be treated differently.”
The Princess of Wales had understandably wished to recover privately, but that didn’t stop speculation. The infamous “Kategate” scandal had those people posting conspiracy theories on social media: she got a bad haircut, she got a Brazilian butt lift, she was in a coma, William was keeping her locked up, etc. All these ridiculous theories started to surface, and none of them could have been further from the truth.
In a message that no one saw coming, Kate released a video sharing the news of her cancer diagnosis with the world. It came as a shock to everyone.
Kate Made A Sweet Gesture That Was Met With Cruelty And Criticism
The month prior, King Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis after having a “corrective prostate procedure.” The monarchy appeared to be crumbling, as no one knew what the institution’s future would look like.
Meanwhile, just a few days before she made the announcement, Kate Middleton posted a Mother’s Day photo on social media for her fans and those who wondered if she was alive.
The photo became a vehicle for intense media scrutiny because Kate doctored it, which apparently greatly upset the media and the public. News outlets issued a kill notice, claiming the photo was too altered to meet their standards. Social media trolls were unforgiving.
Kate’s sweet gesture was simply a mother sharing a photo with her children to bring some joy to the nation. Suddenly, there was buzz that Kensington Palace was not to be trusted. That was until Kate disclosed her cancer diagnosis.
Kate’s first appearance since Christmas was at Trooping the Color in June. Everyone wanted to see Kate there. When she appeared on the balcony, she looked radiant and was so respectful. She gave the King all the attention—with proper dignity and class.
Kate has personally reached out to other cancer survivors and people suffering from the illness as she’s grappling with her cancer diagnosis.
In September, she announced that she completed her treatment. She admitted she knew it would be a long road. However, with her strength, her family, and all the people who love her, she will thrive.
