Prince Andrew is clearly going on the defensive here, and he is going hard. There’s a new report that says Prince Andrew has asked a U.S. court to dismiss Virginia Giuffre’s sexual abuse lawsuit, as his legal team beleives it’s “frivolous.”
Virginia alleges that she was forced to have sex with the Duke of York on a number of occasions while she was still a minor. Here’s what you need to know.
Prince Andrew Thinks Virginia Giuffre’s Sexual Assault Case Against Him Is “Frivolous”
According to new reports, lawyers for the Duke of York say he “unequivocally denies” sexually abusing or assaulting Ms Giuffre, now 38, and described her lawsuit as “frivolous” and an attempt to “achieve another payday at his expense.”
The allegations, which Andrew has repeatedly denied, have been labelled as an attempt to “create a media frenzy online and in the traditional press” against “a member of the world’s best known royal family”, claimed the duke’s lawyers.
Meanwhile, a separate report suggests Prince Andrew is pissed that no one is backing him up at Buckingham Palace. According to the Sunday Times, there are very few people in his royal inner circle who are willing to say anything nice about him. Instead, they describe him as boorish, arrogant and insufferable.
One aide tells the Times: “He’s not made any friends on the way up, so no one is helping him on the way down.”
If that weren’t enough, a former staff member says: “He’s quite an arrogant chap with a tendency to blame other people when things go wrong, instead of looking at his own behavior. The Duke of York has never been one to take advice that doesn’t suit him, and he doesn’t hold back in letting you know what to do with that advice that he doesn’t want to hear.”
“He’s a deeply unpleasant man,” another former aide tells the Times. “The difference you see between him and the way Prince William and the Prince of Wales treat their staff with respect, straight out of the Queen’s handbook, is stark.”
