She’s had the job for over seven decades, but it seems like she just can’t get a break. There’s a new report that suggests Queen Elizabeth’s absence from the COP26 might turn out to be a “big deal” in the wake of her recent hospital stint. This will also give the British royal family a lot to worry about, especially when it comes to their future. Here’s what you need to know.
According to Express, the Queen’s medical team is doing everything they can to ensure that she will be present for the COP26 summit in Glasgow later this month. Both Queen Elizabeth and other senior members of the royal family are expected to attend the climate change meeting. But because of the Queen’s health issues, there’s a chance she might not be there.
Queen Elizabeth’s Absence At COP26 Might Spark Even More Concern For The Royal Family
Speaking on the Royal Rota podcast, ITVs royal editor Chris Ship put it this way, “She’s still planning to go to COP26, that’s the end of next week. If you remember the pictures of her at the G7 summit, she kind of enjoys hosting world leaders, I think they enjoy it when she’s at an event. I’m not getting political here but I’m sure the Queen has a greater draw than Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, for many people.”
He added, “We know that Prince Charles and Prince William are going to go there, but at the moment that is the next scheduled engagement that we’re aware of for her, although we do know of some investitures next week, but we simply don’t know which member of the Royal Family is going to take part in them.”
According to reports, the Queen spent a night in the hospital last week for “preliminary investigations,” a Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed. “Following medical advice to rest for a few days, The Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations,” the palace said in a statement. “[She] remains in good spirits.”
So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter.
