In the third episode of Pig Royalty, we learned that the Rihn show team often wears American Flag shirts on show days. However, when in enemy territory they decided that they would switch up their colors to a plain blue shirt because Mom Jody said she didn’t want a “target on their backs”, she felt like blue was a nice, safe color and wouldn’t trigger the Baleros into targeting the boys.

Considering it’s a show put on by the Balero’s themselves, this was a smart move, not to seem so conspicuous. Especially when it looks like the Balero daughter, McKayla, is buddy-buddy with the judge, Ty Chumley.

Apparently in pig shows it’s common for the judge to ask the handler questions about their pigs. “What do you think is his best quality?” or “What would you change about your pig?” 10 year old Nugget, Michelle Balero’s nephew, said that he prayed for no questions in the ring but when asked about what he thought was his pig’s best quality, he said “the ham”, which prompted a laugh from his Mom.

The ham is the “butt” of the pig and he says that it “tastes good on thanksgiving”, it’s clear to see where this little boy’s brain is.

Unfortunately, it looks like Kannen Rihn didn’t win the showmanship title, that went to Nugget Balero. However, there was another kid in the ring that, according to Tyler Parrish, a coach and member of the Rihn team, there was another kid, an independent pig shower who was not part of either team, that showed rings around Nugget.

So it was a clear case of favoritism – just as they feared. Jody was trying to illustrate how to be a gracious loser however by congratulating Nugget on his win and I guess that’s good to lead by example for the kids… it’d look pretty bad to be mean to a child about winning. Jody even commended Nugget and his Mom, which, was really nice of her. However, competition is competition, and we’re sure that as these kids get old there will be plenty of time to be petty in the future. Stay tuned!!!
