Oscar-winning actor William Hurt has passed just a week before his 72nd birthday. His son, Will, shared the news today saying,
“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”
It was announced in May 2018 that William Hurt had terminal prostate cancer that had spread to the bone. Unfortunately, it’s taken his life and according to his family, he passed peacefully.

Hurt first debuted in 1980 playing a scientist in a science fiction thriller ‘Altered States’ for which he received a Golden Globe nomination. From there, he continued to soar in the industry and many people now may know him for his role as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We send our thoughts to Hurt’s family and hope they are doing well following their terrible loss. He will be remembered through his film roles and the incredible work he left behind for generations to come. Several co-stars have commented on the news, including ‘Avengers: Endgame’ star Mark Ruffalo who wrote, “Wow, another Major loss to the acting community. Great actor. Great mind. RIP.”
