When Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner were murdered back in August, there were no real leads, though briefly there was some speculation that the murderer could have been Brian Laundrie, who also claimed responsibility for the strangulation death of his then-girlfriend, Gabby Petito.
However, authorities have since ruled him out, even though it is still speculated that their paths might have indeed crossed, at the very least the altercation at the Moonflower Market might have been witnessed by them. But Brian Laundrie is not the one that they ultimately suspect that may have killed the couple, in fact, the killer may be a lot closer to home.
New Developments In Moab Murder Case! – A New Person Of Interest?
One of the search warrant affidavits in the case has been released, in it states, “On the night of 8-17-21 Deputy Palmer made a traffic stop on a Subary Outback driven by (person of interest’s name redacted), [who] was so unnerving that the veteran law enforcement officer decided not to write the speeding ticket as he did not want to take his eyes off of (person of interest).
Deputy stated that the person of interest acted oddly for being pulled over for speeding almost a combination of euphoria and that he had been caught doing something wrong.
We were later told that the person of interest has been seen around town and that he routinely sleeps in his vehicle. One party stated that she had to make him leave her place of business as he makes unwanted advances towards women and makes them feel uneasy.
The person of interest was asked if he knew Kylen and he said he had seen her in the Moonflower Market regularly where he was currently working but had never worked with her.”
So far the Investigators are not discussing the particulars of this case, but if this person of interest is indeed responsible for Kylen Schulte and Crystal Turner’s murders, then this account is positively chilling.
This encounter with police would have happened during the time that Kylen and Crystal would have been declared missing but before they were discovered to be deceased. Kylen and Crystal had talked about a “creepy guy” who had been hanging around their campsite and had planned to move, but they didn’t get that chance.
The affidavit went onto say: “The [person of interest] was asked if he knew his whereabouts for Friday night, Saturday night, or Sunday night he could not give any times and stated he would travel to a spot that he often slept at, as it was away from people.
Described the location that he would normally sleep at as 100-300 uards up the Loop Road from the Moab Overlook on a dirt road, and that he had left a blanket there. He had no one to corroborate his story or his location. Law enforcement located two blankets and a jacket and they observed what they believed to be blood on the jacket.
This location would cause Kylen and Crystal to pass it on the way to their campsite. This location is 8.8 miles via road from the scene where Kylen and Crystal were found, but is less than 4 miles if a straight path is taken.”
The return search warrant says that when the police searched the car in question, they only found two cloth hats and one long-sleeved shirt. No firearms or any type of weapon could have killed Kylen and Crystal, since both were shot to death, if the authorities are having trouble locating the murder weapon then that would definitely put a damper on any investigation.
Although, there was a bullet found in a spot where Kylen’s Dad, Kyle Schulte, had set up for people to come and give tips as to his daughters’ whereabouts when she was missing. It’s positively chilling to think that the killer could still be out there, walking around, placing bullets in places to intimidate family members.
It is unknown whether or not if Kylen and Crystal were specifically targeted or if this was an opportunistic sort of murder. We hope that justice can be served for them and their families soon. Stay tuned!!!
