Netflix's 'The Witcher' - Author Andrzej Sapkowski & Writer Lauren Hissrich Discuss The Making Of The Show

The Witcher on Netflix is only one week away and fans are anxiously awaiting release. Well, everyone’s anxious about the release honestly, whether you’re familiar with the novels or not, the series has been taking everyone by storm. Starring Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia. A monster slayer who is destined to protect a princess.

The stories first released in 1993, beginning with short stories before the novelization came out. Author Andrzej Sapkowski states he started with the short stories because no one would publish the novel! Today, after the success of the game series and the new Netflix show it seems crazy. Remember, everyone has to start somewhere!

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ – Author Andrzej Sapkowski & Writer Lauren Hissrich

Netflix has recently released a stream of videos about their new show. They’ve had their cast introduce their characters, had star Henry Cavill read from the stories and went behind the scenes of the show. Now, they’ve brought the author of The Witcher himself to the screen. Andrzej Sapkowski is joined with series writer Lauren Hissrich to discuss what the set was like and asks him about his stories. What came of it was a genius three-minute video that frankly, fans want more of. To hear from the man behind the stories himself is genuinely a dream come true. The reason we’re all here, playing the game and awaiting the series is because of his original contribution.

Andrzej Sapkowski is questioned by the series writer, Lauren Hissrich about his journey through the set. He tells her he’s never been on a set for anything before, and it was truly amazing seeing it brought to life. Of course, everyone wants to know if he’s worried at all about the adaptation. “I don’t like to judge a soup by the list of groceries.” The perfect way to sum it all up by Andrzej Sapkowski. You can’t tell what a finished product will look like behind the scenes very well. It’s refreshing to hear Sapkowski say this. It gives us faith knowing he has faith in the creators of the show.

Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ – Author Andrzej Sapkowski Will Watch It!

Lauren Hissrich asks the biggest question of all. “Will you watch it?”. You always hear about creators not watching adaptations of their work, or even resenting it. It’s also very cool to hear Sapkowski endorse and participate in it as much as we do. Hissrich even jokes, “Maybe we’ll have to watch it together.” Perhaps another Netflix video we’d all enjoy watching. A little commentary on the show by the author and writer.

If you weren’t already excited for The Witcher, this should give you hope. Anytime you adapt someone else’s work, it can be nerve-wracking. To hear the author speak so highly of the upcoming series is a joy to hear! You can watch The Witcher series, only on Netflix, December 20th! Only one week left.
