Netflix ‘Unorthodox’ spoilers finds that maybe it’s just me and my love of shows that immerse you in a completely diferent culture and have such well-crafted, gripping characters and character developments along the way but oh my God, Unorthodox on Netflix needs a season 2 badly!!! The reason being is, I’m still 100% invested in the lives of these characters! Come on guys, we need more!!! There are questions we still don’t get answered and we are DYING, or at least I am!
For those of you who aren’t in the know, Unorthodox is about a young girl living in a Hasidic Jewish community in New York, her name is Esther “Esty” Shapiro (Shira Haas) and she is 19 years old. She has been married just over a year to her husband, Jacob “Yanky” Shapiro (Amit Rahav) and they aren’t really having a good time of it because they are having problems in the bedroom. You might just say that they just need to spice things up or try new things in the bedroom, but Esty has a very painful, debilitating condition and that is vaginismus which makes it difficult to have marital relations. Her husband simply does not understand.
Netflix ‘Unorthodox’ Spoilers: It needs a season 2
Her community is very restrictive, preventing a lot of the things that would make life easier because of religion. So when she finds herself pregnant she decides to up and leave and go to Berlin, where a lot of her Hasidic community’s ancestors perished during WWII. This is the one place that she doesn’t think that anyone will look for her, boy is she wrong. She is quite literally chased down by her husband’s cousin, Moishe Lefkovitch (Jeff Wilbusch) and give an ultimatum to return to Williamsburg or else. Some of the questions we are left with are:
Does Esty ever find out about her Grandmother dying while she was in Berlin?! Does she ever realize that she sang the song that was her Grandmother’s favorite on the day that she died as she lay in state in their apartment?
What about her and Robert (Aaron Altaras), does she end up with him or will there be another jewish boy in her future? (I ship it!)
Does she get to keep her baby? Does Moishe and the rest of the community come after her baby legally, or can she manage to outrun them?
What about the relationship between her and her Mother, does that ever get to heal?!
I’m squealing folks. This was literally so good! However, netflix’s official stance on this has and will be, that it’s a mini-series. Mini-series means that right now, it only has four episodes but they are all just so lovely, and the storytelling is top knotch. Even if you are not anywhere near growing up in a Hasidic community yourself (I’m from the American South), you will find yourself not being able to tear yourself away from this series. If they do a another season, it will be another 2 years so we’ll ahve to keep our eyes pealed for 2022. Stay tuned!!!
