Maurice Benard’s State of Mind has made a habit of getting guests from the soap world. For a while, he had a lot of his General Hospital co-stars on. But he’s expanded a lot, including guests from The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives. Not to mention, sports and the mental health community. On Sunday, DOOL was the source of the chat. Let’s take a look at some takeaways.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind welcomes…

This week, the guest was DOOL actress Lindsay Godfrey. Her character, Sarah Horton, was last seen getting shipped off to an island by Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk). It was all part of Kristen’s plan to keep her secret jail break under wraps, which she was accomplishing by pretending to be look-alike Susan Banks (Haiduk). The actress also had a main role on Bold and the Beautiful as well as numerous film credits. Let’s see what she had to say to Benard.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind: Change of pace

So, Maurice Benard’s State of Mind tackles a lot of issues related to mental illness. And Benard himself has been open in both his solo videos and with guests about being Bipolar. He noted this week’s episode was a bit of a first, as Godfrey also was diagnosed with the illness.

The pair bonded over the similarity, while Benard also dug deep to see what was similar, yet different in their experiences. Funny enough, he learned they were diagnosed around the same age. However, Godfrey revealed she also has another condition that has added to her struggle.

The actress spoke a bit about having Borderline Personality Disorder. She said to be diagnosed, one must meet five of the nine criteria. Godfrey admitted to having all nine of them, and spoke a bit about what it is. Particularly how it effects one’s personal relationships and working life.

Maurice Benard’s State of Mind talks positivity

While the episodes are usually informative and emotional (Benard himself was particularly emotional in this one), it’s also about more than mental illness. Godfrey spoke of a health crisis she had when still a teenager, something that was relatable to Benard, as someone close to him suffered from a form of the illness.

However, the two approached things in different ways. While Benard’s mind went to worst-case scenario, Godfrey didn’t go there until she was well again. She attributed that to one thing.

During the chat, she related her mother is a very positive person who never let her dwell too hard on worst-case thinking and self-pity. However, she did this in a great way. Godfrey spoke about her mother throwing literal pity parties where one was allowed to wallow all they wanted—for the moment. The next day, as Godfrey put it, it was time to “Put on the big-girl pants.” We loved when Godfrey also pointed out  how her bloodwork would improve based on her attitude.
